Venus in Furs (Venus im Pelz), published in 1870 by the Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, is the most famous novella in his "Legacy of Cain" series. It is the foundational text that led psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing to coin the term "masochism" to describe the specific psychological and sexual desires depicted in the book.
